I have always been drawn to the beauty of wood. I am a self-taught woodworker who began building furniture and toys. In 2012, I started turning pieces on the lathe and became hooked. I use mostly wood native to Minnesota and am always watching for those special trees or parts of trees with innate beauty that will make interesting, one-of-a-kind turnings. Like everything in nature, each piece of wood has its own character. I love exposing varying grain patterns in wood, unusual markings and coloration in spalting, and the unique figuring and rich color found in burl. There are times when I know immediately what type of turning I will create, while other times, wood will sit in my shop waiting for the right inspiration. In every situation, the end result is rewarding. The final step in the creation process is the finish. It is important to me that this remains natural, protects the turning, and enhances the wood without making a statement of its own. I work hard to honor and celebrate the character of wood in each piece I create.
My turnings are finished with food safe Mahoney's Walnut Oil and Wax.
